Foundation For Women Warriors 100th Anniversary

Not many nonprofits can say they have reached their 100th birthday.

The Foundation For Women Warriors can.

FFWW Chief Executive Officer and Marine Corps combat veteran Jodie Grenier said the organization was created in June of 1920, originally as a Housing Subsidies Program for widows, war nurses, and mothers of fallen service members.

“We have this long history,” she said.

As women began joining the armed forces in greater numbers, the organization shifted its focus to serving female veterans. Now, It provides essential programs to empower their resilience and professional development.

“We really try to be relevant,” Grenier said.

The foundation’s Warrior Assistance Program provides short-term financial assistance that helps female veterans obtain or retain their homes, explained Grenier.

“We’ve seen an increase in requests for help due to the COVID pandemic,” she added.

The money is paid directly to landlords or mortgage holders. 

Grenier called  FFWW’s Child Care Assistance Program “groundbreaking.” It provides stipends for working veteran moms with children of up to 5 years of age. The program also provides funds for spring, summer and winter break camps for those with children in first through sixth grade.

Introduced to FFWW in 2016, Grenier has also overseen changes in the organization’s name from Military Women in Need and its logo.
