The Corps apparently forgot there are women Marines in its latest recruitment pitch
Let’s not forget these bad-to-the-bone female Marines!
Marine Corps recruiting recently posted a photo montage on its social media pages asking who you would pick to be on your “ideal fire team."
They chose all men, including retired Gen. James Mattis and Medal of Honor recipient Kyle Carpenter.
“The actions of these Marines from throughout our history embody the fighting spirit and determination of our Marine Corps,” the post said. “Each of them overpowered challenges with perseverance to win battles.”
Here are some female Marines who have done the same.
Capt. Elizabeth Okoreeh-Baah is a graduate of the Naval Academy and one of the first women to graduate with a Marine Corps aviation contract. She flew the CH-46E Sea Knight, did a year-long combat deployment and went on to become the first female to fly the Osprey.
Lance Cpl. Alexa Barth is the first female Marine to graduate from the Basic Reconnaissance Course. The Recon field had been closed to females until 2016. Barth graduated in 2019.
Maj. Megan McClung is the first female Marine officer to be killed during the Iraq war. A public affairs officer, she was killed by a roadside bomb in Ramadi on Dec. 6, 2006.
First Lt. Rebecca Turpin received the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with V device for combat valor while serving in Afghanistan. She led a convoy on a 54-hour long drive that was hit by several roadside bombs and came under fire from both rocket-propelled grenades and small arms.
